Why Add Your Child to a Travel Emergency App?
Traveling with children requires extra layers of preparation, especially when visiting unfamiliar destinations. By adding your child or underage dependent to the TravelSafe SOS app, you ensure that they are protected by the same emergency response network that covers you. Should you become separated, or if your child experiences a medical or safety incident while in your care or under supervision, the app provides immediate support, real-time location tracking, and access to live guidance from trained responders. You’ll be notified the moment an emergency is triggered, and the control center can coordinate appropriate medical or security help tailored to their needs. With rising risks in unfamiliar environments, having a direct lifeline for your child is essential. Whether you’re on safari, in transit, or at a remote lodge, adding a dependent gives you peace of mind and ensures your whole family is protected, wherever you are in Africa.
How to Link Your Child to the TravelSafe SOS App
The TravelSafe SOS app is a vital safety tool designed to protect travelers across Southern and East Africa. For families traveling with children, one essential feature is the ability to add underage dependents to a guardian’s account. Whether you’re navigating an airport in Nairobi or exploring the Cape Winelands, having your child linked to the app ensures they’re protected and traceable—even if separated from you in an emergency.
Understanding Age Limits on Apple and Google
Both Apple and Google enforce minimum age requirements for app downloads. According to Apple’s App Store policy, users must be at least 13 years old to create an Apple ID without parental consent. Google follows a similar guideline, with the minimum age also set at 13 in most countries. For children under this age, downloading and using apps independently is not permitted.
However, both platforms support parental or guardian oversight through tools like Apple’s Family Sharing or Google Family Link. These services allow adults to manage app installations and permissions for children. TravelSafe SOS integrates smoothly into these systems, ensuring that a parent can download the app, set it up, and assign limited access or monitoring capabilities to an underage dependent through their account.
Parental Consent and Guardian Control
To comply with these digital policies and ensure responsible use, TravelSafe SOS requires that all underage users be added under a verified adult profile. This adult—usually a parent or legal guardian—acts as the account administrator, granting permission for the child’s participation in the app’s safety services.
Adding of dependents allows you to give access to Travelsafe SOS App and services to your dependents. This service is for persons who are under 18 years of age. If part of your family or travel party is over 18 then they must sign up independently as an individual user.
The setup process is simple: the adult user registers and then adds a dependent profile, inputting key identification details such as name, age, and emergency contact numbers. The system does not allow the child to operate the app independently but instead links them to the guardian’s account, where they can be tracked and located in real-time. The parent or guardian must have an account with TravelSafe SOS, but DO NOT need to have an active trip to add a dependent. The dependent email will be that of the guardian with a +1 or +2 depending how many dependents you have added. It is advised that they do add the dependent contact number but our control room must contact the guardian in the event of an emergency.
On the App:
Navigate to add dependent details for log in purposes. All details of this dependent will be linked to your TravelSafe SOS profile. In the event of a dependent activation TravelSafe SOS will contact you, the dependent creator first

For an unforseen or unplanned LOGOUT – the dependent will need use their stored password to LOG IN again. A tip is to save the log in e-mail and password under contacts or notes on the device.
Why It’s Crucial to Cover Children in Emergencies
Travel disruptions, wildlife excursions, and crowded urban settings can all pose unique challenges for families. If a child is accidentally separated from their parents, having them registered in the app allows the TravelSafe SOS control center to act immediately.
When an alert is triggered—either manually by the adult or through location-based monitoring—the control center can access the dependent’s profile and dispatch help accordingly. In cases of lost children, medical emergencies, or border complications, this feature can be lifesaving.
Additionally, having a child’s information pre-registered speeds up verification, enabling quicker communication with local authorities, embassies, or emergency responders. Parents gain peace of mind knowing that their dependent is included in every safety protocol, especially in unfamiliar or high-risk environments.

Adding an underage dependent to your TravelSafe SOS account not only aligns with Apple and Google’s parental controls but also delivers a strong safety net for families on the move. Whether you’re traveling through Kenya, Rwanda, or Mozambique, your child’s well-being is just a tap away—protected, monitored, and supported in real-time by a dedicated emergency response network.
